- Using iOS 9's Text Replacement feature, formerly called keyboard shortcuts, can greatly speed up input of commonly used phrases, sentences, or text that is challenging to punch in on the iPhone.
- Also, emoji replacement doesn’t work if you use dictation to type a text. When using diction, you manually type it to be offered emoji replacement suggestions. Finally, The Cure(s) Many of our iPhone and iDevice ails are easily solved by disabling and then re-enabling predictive text settings and other keyboard settings.
SMS text messages are pretty standard on all phones, so it's the best way to communicate with people who use all kinds of service or operating system. iMessage, on the other hand, is proprietary and specific to Apple. This means that not everyone can communicate with you if you insist on using it because not everyone is part of the Apple ecosystem. How do you send texts instead of iMessages on your iPhone, though? Let's take a look at a few different methods that allow you to easily do this:
Can you relate to this scenario? Many iPhone users do, and it is not funny when you lose that precious information you put down in your Notes. Nevertheless, there are things you can do to fix the problem of your notes getting deleted randomly by your iPhone. We will look at some solutions, but let us find out what causes iPhone to delete notes randomly first.
1 Change iMessages to Text Messages by Pressing iMessages
Head to Settings General Keyboard Text Replacement on your iPhone. Tap the “+” button to add a new shortcut. Type the word you want to use into the “Phrase” box. For example, to get your iPhone to stop correcting “fucking” into “ducking,” type “fucking.” Tap “Save” after. The iOS feature – Text Replacement, can speed up your keyboard input of frequently-used sentences and text on iPhone. You may have created hundreds of keyboard shortcuts using this feature via Settings General Keyboards Text Replacement. But what if all of these custom text replacements are gone after an iOS update, and it leaves you only the default text shortcut OMW? There are two fixes: Turning off autocorrect entirely, or applying a list of words into the 'text replacement' field on your iPhone. The latter creates a shortcut for words or phrases you type.
You can do this by long-pressing the iMessages:
1. When you are done creating your message, you can send it off as you normally do.
2. Long-press and keep your finger on the body of the message (kind of like you do when you are playing with the copy and paste function).
3. A little dialog box will come up giving you a couple of options. One of those should be 'Send as Text Message'. Tap that, and your iMessage will be turned into a text message.
For this to work, you must press it quickly after you tapping the Send button, before the iMessage has arrived to its recipient.
2 Turn Off Your Wi-Fi and Cellular Data
Follow these steps to turn these off:
- Go to Settings and go into the Wi-Fi/WLAN section.
- Turn the Wi-Fi/WLAN off with the switch.
- Go back to the main Settings screen, and tap Cellular.
- Tap the switch to turn your data off.
You can now text your recipient. Since data and Wi-Fi are turned off, your phone will default to standard SMS texts.
3 Turn Off iMessage on iPhone
You can also simply turn off iMessage. Do this by following these steps:
- Go to Settings on your iPhone.
- Tap Messages.
- Change the iMessage switch to OFF.
You can also optionally turn off MMS messages if you don't want to send larger multimedia texts, such as texts that have attachments or that are very long.

Are you already tired of typing words, names, addresses, same sentences and others again and again? If that so, you can save some of your time by setting up keyboard shortcuts for the text that you frequently type. You can use text replacement for the initials of the word. For instance, you only have to type “btw” and it will automatically turn in to by the way.
iPhone and iPad devices already have text replacement included but only few of the most commonly used such as “omw” for “On my way”. If there are more phrases or sentences that you always have to type, you can create your own shortcuts so you do not have to type everything all over again. All shortcuts you create from a certain iDevice will automatically sync among all your iDevices. How to use text replacement? We will show you step by step!
How to Use Text Replacement or Keyboard Shortcuts on iPhone and iPad
1. Open Settings app from your iPhone or iPad.
2. Tap General then tap Keyboard.
3. Tap Text Replacement.
Step 4: Tap the “+” sign.
Step 5: Type the whole phrase you usually have to type in the Phrase field. (e.g., laughing out loud)
Step 6: Type the snippet that you want to be replaced by the phrase. (e.g., lol)
Step 7: Simply tap Save to create your text replacement.
After you type the shortcut you create, it will automatically be replaced by the whole phrase. Tapping the space bar will trigger the text replacement.
But if you were using Auto-Correction feature, open Settings app and tap General. Tap Keyboard and select Auto-Correct. There will be a text insertion bubble above the shortcuts. Clicking it will cancel the text replacement while tapping the space bar triggers the use of text replacement.
How to Activate QuickType
To activate QuickType feature or the prediction of the texts you are about to type, follow these steps:
- Open Settings
- Tap General and select Keyboard.
- Tap Predictive. This feature allows you to type only the first few letters of the words you need to type and the phrase or the whole word will automatically appear above the keyboard.
